Obituary of Richard Bruce Barnes
Richard “Dick” Barnes 78 of Weiser, ID passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. Richard leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly fifty-seven years, Virginia, his two children Terri Fischer & Keith Barnes, his three grandchildren George Fischer, Casey Fischer, & Christian Fischer and his sisters Gail Courtney & Linda Strong. He was preceded in death by his brother Allen Barnes and his parents Arthur and Virginia Barnes.
Richard was born and raised in East Rochester, New York. After he was discharged from the Navy, he and Virginia lived in Leicester and Perry, New York, then settled in Warminster, Pennsylvania to raise their family. Later, he and Virginia moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina, and finally retired in Weiser, Idaho.
He graduated from East Rochester High School in 1963. His college education was at Monroe Community College for Nursing and Philadelphia College of Bible (now Cairn University). Dick was a registered nurse for 43 years and loved both psychiatric and geriatric patients. He was also a Nursing Home Administrator at Christ’s Home Retirement Center in Warminster, PA for seven years and loved serving the Lord through that mission.
Richard was a veteran of both the Navy and the Army Reserve. He served 4 years in the Navy (the last 2 with the Fleet Marine Force as a Hospital Corpsman for the Marines) and retired from the Army in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel. While serving in the Navy, Dick met his bride Virginia at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital.
Richard loved camping, working on projects around the house, and farm life. He enjoyed being outside and would take the time to sit and watch the birds, the farmers, and his beloved trains.
At Richard’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
Arrangements under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home.
