Patricia Felton

Obituary of Patricia K Felton

Patricia Kay Felton passed away on April 28, 2021 at her home in Midvale.

Pat was born to Robert and Georgia Doggett on May 3, 1955 in Council, Idaho. She was born a poor farmer’s daughter, the third of six children. Her childhood was spent playing and adventuring the hills of their Midvale home with her siblings—riding horses and bicycles, creating games, and cuddling the ever-present menagerie of animals. She always had lots of love, but very little pocket change.

Always and ever, Pat was an original.  From performing impromptu dance recitals for her forced audience of siblings (who, for the record, gave rave reviews) to speaking her thoughts to finding and marrying her one true love, she wasn’t afraid to let the world know who she was.

While attending the University of Idaho, Pat met Tim Felton.  Though soul-mates aren’t common, anyone could see that Pat and Tim were just that.  They were married on August 3, 1974 and raised three cherished children: Kris, Dulcey, and Zac. Pat and Tim continued to be best friends and in love for the next 46 years—knowing each other, taking care of each other, choosing each other in the crowd.

Pat endured several big losses and struggles in her life. Among them were saying good-bye to her beloved mom at a young age and losing her infant daughter, Jennifer. She and two of her sisters suffered from a genetic condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa that slowly stole their eyesight. Her beautiful strength was in her ability to really feel everything, the good and the bad, without letting the pain rob her of living her truth.

Pat was an artist. She was creative and talented in nearly everything she touched. When she could see, she drew wonderful sketches and liked to craft. She was one of those people who seemed to “magic” pictures onto a page. She could also sing, sew, and was an amazing chef. She liked to try out new recipes and once had dreams of writing her own cookbook. Her love for cooking began at a young age and her siblings recall a time when, while on a family trip to town, she took a lone venture into a hardware store to buy a nice mixer to aide in her work (she was around 13).

Pat found joy in a plethora of things. She enjoyed watching baseball games (especially if her children were playing), old Doris Day movies, reading, every puppy and every kitten, birdsong, tulips, and lighthouses. She was a free spirit and felt a strong connection to the sea—its waves, the wild air. But, more than anything, she found joy in her family. She fiercely and unconditionally loved her children and grandchildren.  Her favorite adventures in recent years have been road trips to visit them.

Those who knew Pat knew her to be a great listener and a thoughtful human. Her care for those she loved was obvious with the way she would lean in to hear your words or call to check on you. She hosted baby showers for nieces and knew (and baked) her loved-ones’ favorite desserts. Her love language was gift-giving, and she put much thought and effort into collecting personal gifts for many—including her 15 great-nieces and nephews!

Pat had a quick wit and a mischievous sense of humor. She was often first to get the joke and shared plenty of quips and teasings with the equally witty Tim.  Their soft chuckles have always been a familiar sound at gatherings and visits. He would often remind her that it wasn’t nice to make fun of sighted people. This sense of humor was also a wonderful tool for dealing with mischievous children, but you’ll have to get those stories from them.

Pat is now smiling and chatting with her parents Georgia and Bob Doggett, her grandparents, and her baby girl Jennifer.  Those loving her from earth include her soul-mate Tim Felton; children Kris, Dulcey (Leon) Ferrell, and Zac; grandkids Hailey, Keeley, and Ainsley; siblings Jeannie (Tom) Billington, Joyce (Nick) Partin, Peggy Doggett, Bob Jr. (Kendal) Doggett, and Ted (Jodi) Doggett; and many more.
