Obituary of Hazel May Toombs

Hazel May Smith Toombs, beloved wife and mother passed away peacefully December 3rd, 2016 at the Ashley Care Home in Ontario, Oregon. Hazel was born December 25, 1928 in Logan, Utah to William and Lila Smith of Ontario. Hazel’s family moved to SE Idaho where most of her siblings were born and back to Utah for a small time and then to Ontario, Oregon. Being raised during the Great Depression, Hazel and her siblings often worked in the field to help the family income. From her mother, she learned the art of gardening, canning, sewing, and other ways to make a dollar stretch and make a happy home. She loved Christmas and prepared all year to ensure her family had a nice Christmas. Hazel married Robert Toombs October 26, 1946. Together they raised 7 children. Over the years, Hazel lived a full live and did many different things. She loved reading and many different types of crafts. She and her husband, Bob loved the outdoors and spent many years hunting, fishing and camping. Later in life they loved to rock hound together. Once Hazel’s family was grown, Hazel became a successful Realtor. She enjoyed helping families buy their own homes. Between Hazel’s realtor sales and her husband, Bob’s building business they sold, built or remodeled many homes in Ontario and surrounding area. Taking a car ride with them was very interesting as they pointed out the different homes they worked or sold through the years.
