Susan Platt

Obituary of Susan L. Platt

Susan was the eldest child of Robert S and Esther Lorraine Nielson and was born on May 15, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since she was born during World War II, Susan’s father was drafted into the U.S. Navy shortly after her birth. He served as an aircraft mechanic on the aircraft carrier, Ticonderoga. During the war, she lived with her mother in Ephraim, Utah. Following the war her father returned to Ephraim where he worked as an auto mechanic. She attended school and grew up in Ephraim. In 1954 at the age of 11, her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended junior high and high school at West and Granite High School. It was here that she developed her talents in and won scholarships in music (particularly piano), and library skills. She graduated in May 1961. After high school, Sue worked at the library for the blind for a year to earn money to attend college. She entered Brigham Young University in the fall of 1962 where she met the love of her life, Delray Platt who had just returned from his church mission in New Zealand. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on September 4, 1963. They remained in Provo, Utah for the next 2 ½ years until Delray graduated from college. After graduation, they moved to Hines, Oregon for 2 years where Delray taught school. In 1967 they moved to Cambridge, Idaho where they will reside. Susan was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many leadership positions. She was happiest working with children, especially caring for her own 5 children. Sue was multi-talented; a seamstress; handicrafts; cake and cookie decorating; working with people; a beautiful piano player and much more than we can ever name. Susan left this world and joined her Heavenly Father on November 30, 2018 in Cambridge, Idaho. Susan is survived by her husband, Delray of Cambridge, Idaho; a son, Robert Platt of Boise, Idaho; a son, Layne Platt of West Jordan, Utah; a daughter, Gaylene (Layne) Gneiting of Mesa, Arizona; a daughter, Merri Platt of Meridian, Idaho; a daughter, Marama Platt of Cambridge, Idaho.
