Frank Rast

Obituary of Frank Everet Rast

Frank Everet Rast, 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, July 27 with his immediate family by his side, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer. Frank was born August 8, 1943 to Barbara and Otto Rast Sr. in a small sawmill hospital in Port Gamble Washington. His family moved to Weiser when he was about two years old. He graduated from Weiser High School in 1962. While in high school he started working for the Signal America newspaper. Dorothy Yockey also worked at the newspaper and her daughter worked at the paper after school on paper days. There, he met his partner for life, Jane, they were married August 5, 1966. Frank received his apprentice papers for printing in April of 1967, and then received his draft notice from Uncle Sam not long after. He entered the Army in June of 1967, and graduated from Non-Commission Officer School at Fort Benning, Georgia, as Sergeant in February 1968. From there he went to Fort Polk Louisiana to train troops and then in June was sent to Vietnam. He was involved in an accident there, and after medical care, the Army knew of his printing experience and sent him to Okinawa to head the 7th Psychological Operations Group as NCOIC of the bindery Section where he was in charge for the production division, where leaflets were printed, packed in bombs, and dropped over Vietnam. After being discharged in 1969, he came home to Weiser and went to work for NAPA Auto Parts, where he worked for seventeen years. Son, Scott was born in 1970 and Greg in 1974. He then worked for the City of Weiser as a Shop Foreman until retirement. Second to his family, was his love for his 1956 Chevy Belair Hardtop that he bought in 1964. He had completely rebuilt the car, but had a few things left to do, and thank to so many great friends, it was completed this year, and his boys were able to take him for a ride while he was still able. He loved helping his son Scott build a 70 Chevelle SS while in high school and Greg a four-wheel drive Chevy flatbed pickup. He could build or fabricate anything. His greatest joys were being with family on our yearly camping trips and all the great times on the many Rod Runs over the years with friends, and also the last few summers spent in Garden Valley where our travel trailer was parked. He was able to see Hawaii twice and go on two ocean cruises to Alaska with a group of close friends. He was a charter member of Rods of Idaho & Oregon, and The Court Street Cruiser car clubs. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Grandparents Delbert and Pearl Jackson, and brothers Charles and Victor Rast. He is survived by his wife Jane, of almost 51 years, son Scott Rast (Ginger) of Riverton Utah, grandsons Evan and Andrew, Son Greg Rast (Stacia) of Meridian Idaho, granddaughters Alex, Abby, Izzy and Makenzi, step-grandsons Parker and Calvin McMillon, brother Otto Rast Jr. (Renee) of Weiser, little sister Trina Flores (Lyle) of Weiser and special Uncle Richard Jackson (Trudy) of Eagle. Please come celebrate his life with family at an open house at the Vendome Event Center in Weiser, Saturday, August 12, 2017 for 1:00 to 3:00. Please make donations in his name to the Rods of Idaho & Oregon Memorial Scholarship fund in care of: Nanette Cox, 76 Hwy 95 Weiser, ID. Many thanks to the girls at Heart & Home Hospice, who gave him excellent care, and to the many friends who have come to visit and help on his car, it will never be forgotten.
