I am going to miss Aunt Marie very much and will think of her every day. Losing Aunt Marie has torn open my heart and it feels like losing my mother all over again. Aunt Marie and Uncle Bob and their home in rural Ontario, Oregon was iconic in my life and to everyone in the ‘Gratz Clan’. When the power went out in Portland after the Columbus Day Storm of 1962, we packed the car and drove to the safety, security and self sufficiency of Aunt Marie. I think she kept us ten days, two toddlers and a three month old baby. Summer vacations, holidays, trips passing through on the way to Portland, everyone went to Aunt Marie’s. She met everyone with huge home cooked meals and always fabulous desserts. Often there was coconut cream pie, banana cream, apple and strawberry rhubarb all baked from scratch by Aunt Marie. A visit to Ontario meant hours of card games and laughter and stories. Memories, tons of memories. Aunt Marie was warm and loving and generous and wise and yet she had a temper too which she inherited from Grandma. Some of my best memories are when all the Gratz Sisters were together, usually in a kitchen, working together and laughing and loving each other. Everyone in the family, especially the huge beautiful Thompson Clan will miss and continue to love Aunt Marie and keep her safe in their hearts forever. Rest In Peace and hug all our loved ones in heaven. I love you Aunt Marie
